Learning, Growing, and Playing in the Light of God’s Word

Our Purpose and Mission
-Create an educational environment favorable for students to remain firmly rooted and built up in Christ. Colossians 2:6-7
-Provide a rigorous and wholesome academic curriculum with integrated Christian values to prepare students for post-secondary education, employment, civic involvement, and community services.
-Honor developmental needs for unstructured play/learning, time in nature, socialization, leadership, creativity, and personal accountability.
-Value each parent's right to be an involved and integral part of their child's education.
-Maintain a consistent community of encouragement and support.

Matthew 19:14
“Jesus said, Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

What We Offer
C4 Learning Academy utilizes a hybrid model overcoming many of the obstacles that keep modern day families from homeschooling. This model entails students splitting their time between the home and a more traditional learning environment. Our academy plays a vital role in a family's homeschool experience by supplementing a generous portion of their child(ren)'s educational and social developmental needs. Having this support relieves parents of much of the work and responsibility that comes naturally with traditional homeschooling, with the advantage of remaining an integral part of their child(ren)'s educational growth and success.
Instructional days are offered Tuesday through Thursday from 9am-3pm during the Fall and Spring semesters (13 weeks/semester). On in-person days, direct instruction will be led by parent instructors in a blended one room schoolhouse type setting with other parent volunteers present to help monitor independent practice and exploration. With the support of the instructor, volunteers will be optimally guided to ensure the best outcome for student potential. Students will be grouped by their ability rather than divided by age or grade, and a daily routine will be utilized and work to cover all core subjects strengthening the retention of knowledge and the critical thinking process. Lesson work, studies, and projects may be assigned for completion outside of instruction days to further lesson retention and mastery, in addition to providing structure to parent-led instruction outside of academy.
Following Spring Break we resume our time together for 6 weeks outside of our regular academy schedule. This typically requires 2 half days, or 8 hours per week of attendance. During this time elementary students go off campus to learn real life skills in a non-traditional outdoor setting, while middle and highschool students engage in a hands-on subject focused class (varies from year to year) that older students may obtain valuable highschool credit from.

Enrollment
Applications are made available each spring based on the limited number of projected openings for the upcoming academic year. To be put on our waitlist or to inquire about applications you may email us at [email protected]. Once we receive an application for an available opening an interview is scheduled between the director, teacher, student, and parents. Following the interview families should expect to receive an email letting them know if their child was accepted into the program or not. Applicants should understand that as a private academy, primarily run by a non-trained volunteer staff, that we may not have the capacity to serve the unique needs of every child. It is also imperative that we value our volunteers’ personal limits, meaning that they must feel comfortable taking on the unique needs of the students on their rosters. Siblings of enrolled students and current members of Acorns to Great Oaks, receive priority placement on our waitlist.

Tuition and Fees
Registration Fee, $150/child
*This non-refundable fee will hold your child’s respective spot in our program for the upcoming year AND help us purchase a portion of the shared curriculum and classroom materials your child will need throughout the year.
Tuition, $40/week during the Fall and Spring semesters and an estimated $150-$200 for the final 6 weeks. *This includes daily snacks and lunch provided once each week during the Fall and Spring semesters.
Additional Curriculum and Materials, $100-$500/child *This is the estimated cost of consumable curriculum materials required for the school year (purchased prior to the first day of learning).
*Following registration we will provide a list of school materials and supplies that should be purchased prior to the first day of learning, and ask that you kindly provide what is required.

Volunteering
One of the most beautiful things about our program is that we really are homeschooling TOGETHER! That means that our success will rely greatly on the willingness of our families to be involved, and is why we will encourage parents to volunteer as much as they can throughout the year.
A monthly sign-up sheet will be made available for parents to volunteer in the classroom before the beginning of each month. One volunteer is required each instructional day. Volunteers should be prepared to assist instructors in the overall daily functions of the pod, as well as monitoring and providing academic support to students. Families are kindly required to volunteer a minimum number of days per semester. This number is based on the number of families involved from year to year.
All volunteers must adhere to an annual background check, and non-parent volunteers must first be approved by the director.

Parent Responsibility
Our program offers to supplement a valuable part of a child's homeschool education, provide a weekly record of student work, and offer basic family support; however, it is not the intention of the learning pod to completely replace the need for at-home instruction. It will remain the parents' sole responsibility to keep track of their child(ren)’s in-person work and utilize the last 9 weeks (after spring break) and non-instructional days to fill in any gaps necessary to ensure their family is meeting all of Kentucky's homeschool requirements.

Leadership Team
Our leadership team is made up of the church appointed academy director and our volunteer parent facilitators. *Some leadership meetings may require the attendance of the church pastor and/or board of directors.

Statement of Faith

I. GOD - We believe that there is only one true, living and eternal God and that the Godhead is revealed as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. John 1:1-5

II. THE BIBLE – We believe that the Holy Scriptures are the Old and New Testaments; the inspired and infallible Word of God and therein is found the only reliable guide of Christian faith and conduct. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

III. MAN – We believe that God created man in His own image to bring Him honor through obedience, and that when man disobeyed he became a fallen and sinful creature, unable to save himself. We believe that infants are in the covenant of God's grace and that all persons become accountable to God when they reach a state of moral responsibility. Genesis 1:27, Romans 5:12-15, Romans 2:12-16

IV. SALVATION - We believe that Salvation (regeneration, sanctification, justification, and redemption) has been provided for all mankind through the redemptive work (life death, resurrection, ascension, and intercession) of Jesus Christ. John 3:16-18

V. ASSURANCE AND ENDURANCE - We believe that those who abide in Christ have the assurance of salvation. However, we believe that the Christian retains his freedom of choice; therefore, it is possible for him to turn away from God and be finally lost. 1 John 5:11, Hebrews 6:4-6

VI. CHRISTIAN DUTIES - We believe that Christians should live faithfully by serving in and through the local church, praying diligently, witnessing earnestly, practicing tolerance, showing loving kindness, giving as God prospers, and conducting themselves in such a way as to bring glory to God. 1 Peter 4:10-11

VII. Marriage - Marriage is ordained of God and is a spiritual union in which one man and one woman are joined by God to live together as one. Marriage can only be ordained by God; therefore marriage can only take place through God’s regulations set out through scripture. Marriage is a lifelong commitment with the only clear biblical allowance for ending a union is death or fornication. Sexual involvement, either before marriage or with someone other than the marriage partner, is strictly prohibited. Understanding the sanctity of marriage, partners should strive to maintain a happy, harmonious, and holy relationship. Men are to be the head of the house, and wives should submit to their husbands. Likewise, men need to love their wives sacrificially as Christ loved the Church. Should a Christian desire to remain single, this decision should be respected and should be seen as a life lived for Christ alone. If they choose to be married, their spouse should be one that also believes and lives for God. Genesis 2:18-24, Matthew 19:1-9, Ephesians 5:21-33

VIII. THE CHURCH - We believe that the Church: Universal is the Body of Christ, the fellowship of all believers and that its members have been called out from the world to come under the dominion and authority of Christ, its head. We believe that a local church is a fellowship of Christians, a part of the Body of Christ, voluntarily banded together for worship, nurture, and service. 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, Colossians 1:18, Colossians 3:14-16

IX. ORDINANCES - We believe that baptism and the Lord's Supper are ordinances instituted by Christ to be observed by Christians only. We also believe that the Biblical mode of baptism is immersion and that participation in the Lord's Supper should be open to all Christians. Matthew 28:19-20, Matthew 26:26-28

X. THE LORD'S DAY - We believe in the Sanctity of-the Lord's Day, the first day of the week, and that this day ought to be observed by worshiping God. Witnessing for Christ, and ministering to the needs of humanity. We believe that secular work on Sunday should be limited to cases of necessity or mercy. Exodus 20:8-11

XI. LAST THINGS - We believe in the personal return of Jesus Christ, and in the bodily resurrection of the dead. We believe that God will judge all mankind by Jesus Christ; that He will reward the righteous with eternal life in Heaven, and that will banish the unrighteous to everlasting punishment in hell. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17

Discipline

The safety and comfort of our students is one of our top priorities at C4 Learning Academy.

The following behaviors shall be handled by the classroom teacher OR the attending adult:

-teasing -inappropriate clothing
-possessing matches/lighter -abuse of school grounds/equipment
-swearing -inappropriate touching
-disrespect to others -refusing to cooperate/participate
-cheating/lying -non-threatening inappropriate behavior

If the above behaviors persist, they shall be reported to the director. A parent will be contacted on the same day as the report, and a meeting will be scheduled to discuss a resolution. Continued behavior following the parent meeting will require a meeting of the leadership team, and may result in suspension or dismissal.

The following behaviors are to be immediately referred to the director and, at the same time, may require the student to be picked up by the parent:

-physical aggression -vandalism
-smoking/drugs/alcohol -bullying
-intimidation/threats -weapons
-sexual behavior -inappropriate web search/print materials
-theft (serious) -off school grounds without permission
-sexual harassment -endangerment of self/others

The above behaviors will call for an urgent meeting of the leadership team and may result in the immediate suspension or dismissal of the student.

Attendance

Students are expected to attend academy regularly. Excessive absences, as defined by the director, will be addressed in a parent meeting and could result in dismissal from the program.

Sickness

It is our intention and goal to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible. Below are the guidelines our staff and parents shall follow to determine when it is appropriate to keep your child at home for illness. We are committed to maintaining a healthy environment for all of our students and teachers.

Your child may not attend academy if they have any of the following:

• Fever at or above 100.4F - may return when fever breaks and no fever-reducing medication has been used for 24 hours
• Diarrhea (more than one abnormally loose stool)
• Vomiting - may return within a minimum of 24 hours symptom free.
• Nausea
• Severe cough
• Skin or eye lesions or rashes that are severe, weeping, or pus-filled
• Stiff neck and headache with one or more of the symptoms listed above
• Difficulty breathing or abnormal wheezing
• Complaints of severe pain

Below are some common ailments/illnesses and academy policy for how to handle each. This is not a complete list and final say on when it may be appropriate or inappropriate for a child to attend academy based on illness/symptoms remains at the discretion of the director.

Colds
A normal cold will present with symptoms such as runny nose and cough and may not have a fever. While mild symptoms are permitted at academy - coughing persistently in addition to nasal drainage requiring constant wiping/blowing is not permitted. Mild symptoms include an occasional cough or intermittent need to wipe/blow nose. Children must be able to participate in their normal daily activities.

Fevers
A fever is a temperature at or above 100.4F. Your child must be fever-free for a minimum of 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.

Strep Throat
Strep throat is a common bacterial infection that causes fever, sore throat, painful swallowing, decreased appetite and usually white blisters in the back of the throat/tongue. A child that has been diagnosed with strep may return a minimum of 24 hours after beginning antibiotics. However, some children may still have pain, fever or difficulty swallowing 24 hours after treatment begins. In this case please use your discretion upon the child returning based on their symptoms. See fever policy if fever remains.

Hand, Foot, and Mouth
HFM is a common and very contagious childhood virus. Typically small dots appear in the mouth, on palms of hands and feet. Other common areas include: all around the mouth, creases of legs or elbows. Typically a fever occurs before the rash. Your child may not attend academy for 5 days. Siblings must remain home together should one have HFM.

RSV
Symptoms include runny nose, low appetite, coughing, sneezing and fever. This virus is particularly dangerous for young children and their respiratory system and can lead to hospitalization. Children diagnosed with RSV may not attend academy for a minimum of 5 days. Siblings must remain home together should one have RSV.

INFLUENZA
Children who test positive for influenza must stay home from academy for a minimum of 5 days. Siblings must also remain home. Please remain home until fever has subsided for at least 24 hours and no fever reducing medication is being used. Remaining symptoms should be nearly resolved prior to returning to academy.

COVID-19
Children who test positive for COVID must stay home from academy for a minimum of 5 days. Siblings must also remain home. Please remain home until fever has subsided for at least 24 hours and no fever reducing medication is being used. Remaining symptoms should be nearly resolved prior to returning to academy.

Sibling Policy
There are some illnesses, such as the ones listed above, when siblings must remain home together due to the severity and how contagious an illness may be. However, not all contagious illnesses are listed here for which siblings should remain home. Please use your own judgment for if/when a sibling should attend when another child/family member is home sick. Considerations should be taken such as age of sibling(s), how close of contact siblings/family members have been in the days leading up to the illness, shared facilities (bedrooms, sleeping spaces), etc. However, final judgment may be made on a case by case basis as determined by the director. Please don’t hesitate to contact Katie for questions or to determine sibling requirements.

Being sent home from academy / Returning to academy
Children must be able to participate in all activities. A child who has signs of illness shall be isolated and the parent(s) notified to pick up the child within 30 minutes. If a child is sent home from academy they may not return the next day. Children are required to be symptom free for a minimum of 24 hours.

Inclement Weather

If there is ever a question about weather conditions, C4 Learning Academy families should follow the guidance of our local county school district for delays and closings.

Non-Discrimination

C4 Learning Academy does not discriminate on the basis of race, nationality, or disability.
